I spend a lot of time in Olympia. I have gotten a fair idea of how things work, and why they so often don’t. Testifying on various issues has been gratifying and frustrating. Some representatives listen, and even take note of what we have to say, others treat us as if we were petitioners in a medieval court, asking the Lord for favors. I have even heard those who represent groups who really have important things to say, thank their representatives for crumbs, and ask meekly for programs that if cut, would really hurt people.
Remember, these are YOUR representatives, YOU are the boss, and they are there to hear what you want…
I think it is past time to stop business as usual, and get people elected who know who is boss, and plan to listen–even if I disagree with you, I could learn something.
There is time to get the ideas I have worked on with some very smart people to change what does not work. With your backing, I hope we can get our government, which belongs to us, to work for everyone. I have heard people in office in Olympia state that the voters are stupid. I disagree. You are busy, and that is where the problem comes in. It is often hard to find out what is really happening, and the media isn’t always helpful. They spend far too much time on just a few stories and candidates, and decide for you that you don’t need to know the rest. I think it is very important for you to find out the things you need to made a good, educated decision.
